Frequently Asked Questions

What does WeFoundIt do?

We search government unclaimed property databases for your name. If we find a possible match, we text you the details and guide you through the official claim process.

Is there a fee?

There is no upfront cost to check. If we find money and you want our help claiming it, a finder's fee may apply depending on your state's laws. The fee is always shown clearly before you agree to anything, and is only due after you receive the money. If we find nothing, you owe nothing.

Can I do this myself for free?

Yes. You can search for and claim unclaimed money yourself for free through official government websites like MissingMoney.com, Unclaimed.org, or USA.gov. Our service is optional.

Do I need to share private information?

Not with us. We only ask for your name, phone number, and optionally your state. If money is found, you file your claim directly on the official government website. We never ask for your SSN, tax ID, or documents.

How long does it take?

We typically send results within 1–3 business days via text message.

Is WeFoundIt a government agency?

No. WeFoundIt is a private service. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or approved by any government agency.

What happens after you find money?

We text you the amount, the source, and a link to your claim page. On that page, you'll see the finder's fee (if any) and can sign a claim-specific agreement. You then file your claim directly on the official government website.

What if you don't find anything?

We let you know. You owe nothing.

Why text messages instead of email?

Text messages are delivered directly to your phone and don't get lost in spam folders. You can reply STOP at any time to opt out.
